Cooler temperatures are upon us and with it comes more instances of fire damage. If you're like many in our area you've probably begun enjoying bonfires or campfires outside with friends and family. Although they are always a good time and can keep you warm while outdoors they have the potential to turn into a fire hazard quickly.
SERVPRO® of Reading Twp., York City is always around to clean up if you have fire damage, but here are some helpful tips to keep you safe and the good times rolling:
- Always make sure your fire pit or campfire is far enough away from your house that wind gusts won't lead the flames to cause a structure fire.
- Don't let grass grow up or around your fire pit. Make sure to cut and clear the area around the pit of grass or weeds.
- Never leave the fire unattended.
- Always make sure the fire is completely out by dousing the entire pit with water.
- Look to make sure there are no embers still burning when you are done, even a single ember can relight and grow out of control to cause damage.
By keeping these helpful tips in mind, we hope you can stay safe while staying warm!
