Leaky Pipes From Winter Weather

We can typically predict an uptick in emergency calls when the winter weather hits. Sometimes its fire damage from faulty wiring or neglected fireplaces. Other times it's water damage from frozen or leaking pipes.
The hard freeze we had last week brought in a lot of phone calls from unfortunate people who had their pipes freeze and burst. Now that things are beginning to warm up again, all of the melting snow has meant calls for water damage due to leaking and flooding.
Although we can't prevent snow from falling and piling up we can help prevent bursting pipes. Most houses are okay because they stay warm enough to keep the pipes from freezing, but if the pipes are exposed to the low temperatures it may be helpful to keep a faucet at a slow drip to prevent freezing.
If the house is not in use make sure to winterize the pipes by shutting off the water and making sure the pipes are empty so water can't freeze and swell inside the plumbing.
If you have any damage from the recent freezing temperatures don't hesitate to give SERVPRO® of Reading Twp. York City a call at (717)484-1184.
